Mora Robust OutDoor Bushcraft Knife – first impressions
So I just received a new bushcraft knife, the Mora Robust
First of all I was impressed by the size of the knife. It is very hard to judge from pictures or videos, and because of the low price I was expecting a smaller knife. I thought that the Mora Robust would be of a similar size than my Opinel N°6 pocket knife. As you can see from the pictures, I was wrong! The blade of the Mora is 2 cm longer and twice as thick as that of the Opinel. The handle is made of folded plastic with a very large belly, which fits perfectly in my large hands. The grip is very efficient and feels much safer than the smooth wooden surface of the Opinel’s handle.
The carbon steel blade came extremely sharp right out of the box. It has no problem cutting a sheet of paper or bitting my nails. It wasn’t able to shave hairs on my arm though, but for some basic bushcraft activity that I tried in the garden, such as cutting feather sticks or peeling, the job was done more than perfectly and with no efforts.
The sheath is made of plastic and seems quite ‘cheap’ (well it makes sense, considering the low price of this knife!). Nothing special to say about it at first glance. The belt clip is holding tight and, once pushed all the way in, the knife seems to hold properly even upside down. There is a hole at the bottom of the sheath to drain water. It is possible to combine two sheath together to carry more knives as well.
